Leightons Free Hearing Tests

Regular hearing tests are vital because any deterioration can happen gradually. The sooner issues are detected, the easier they are to correct.

Leightons Hearing Care offers free hearing tests at all its branches. Our comprehensive hearing assessments are carried out by our professionally trained hearing aid audiologists, to find out more or to book call 0800 40 20 20. All Leightons hearing aid dispensers are registered with the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council).

At Leightons, we offer two types of free hearing test:

Free Hearing Health Check

A free hearing health check is a short appointment that uses a simple test to check your level of hearing, from which our experts can recommend whether further investigation would be beneficial.

Free Full Hearing Assessment

An in-depth, comprehensive assessment of your hearing in conjunction with your lifestyle needs.

Your full hearing assessment will include:

  • Medical history as well as understanding the impacts that your hearing levels may be having on your quality of life
  • Video otoscopy of the outer ear, eardrum and canal in full colour to investigate reasons for possible hearing impairment
  • Tympanometry, functionality test of the middle ear to see whether it's healthy.
  • Pure tone audiometry determining the level of hearing loss
  • Speech testing to determine how much of a difficulty any hearing impairment may be causing you.
  • Speech in noise testing

Information regarding your hearing and appointment outcomes

Sometimes hearing impairment may be caused simply by a build-up of wax or a foreign object lodged in your ear. Alternatively, the video otoscope examination may detect conditions such as perforated ear drums.

At the end of the test, you will receive your results as an audiogram as well as expert advice on preventative or corrective measures as required. If you'd like to book in for a free hearing assessment simply call us on 0800 40 20 20.

A familiar voice

We usually suggest that you are accompanied by a family member or close friend for the assessment as they may be able to offer further insight into your background and lifestyle. They will also make it easier for you to measure the improvement of a familiar voice and provide support for any decision you might make. Although current restrictions mean that this is not possible, we still advise that you take the time to discuss your results and any decisions with your loved ones.

Choosing a hearing aid

If hearing loss is detected, your audiologist will provide extensive information about hearing aids and also offer a free hearing aid demonstration to help you choose the best one for you. We carry a wide range of digital hearing aids from the most trusted brands in the industry, including Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Widex, Unitron and Starkey.

We recommend that existing hearing aid users wear their devices during the assessment. We can also provide technical checks and repairs if necessary via our Clean and Check service.
