Never lose your Sunglasses!

How many sunglasses have you lost or misplaced this summer? Sunglasses are amongst the most commonly lost items, along with keys, umbrellas, credit cards, and socks! Australian brand Tzukuri, which is known for its Japanese handcrafted frames, has come up with a novel way to ensure that you never lose your sunglasses again.

Unique Glasses

Tzukuri glasses are designed with frames that are embedded with small solar-powered Bluetooth sensors. These link with your smartphone (currently only iPhone 4S & above) and send alerts if you leave your glasses behind. Alerts contain location tags and are sent out at a distance of 5m, 10m & 15m – enough time for you to turn back and retrieve your glasses. Apart from this cutting edge technology, the frames are also stylishly designed and available in six styles – each named after a cultural or fashion icon. So you have Atticus (after Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird), Lennon (after John Lennon’s signature round frames) and Monaco (after legendary actress Grace Kelly who was the Princess of Monaco). The anti-scratch lenses provide 100% UV protection. The glasses are priced at approximately £200 and will be launched later this year.

Lost & Found

If relying on technology to find your sunglasses sounds a bit daunting, here are some old-fashioned tips for not losing them in the first place:

  • Have a designated space (at home, in the car, at work) where you always put them. Having a sunglasses case is helpful. The key is to always keep your sunglasses in the allocated space.

  • When you are outside (and don’t need to wear sunglasses), prop them on your head or clip them to your shirt. Or you can put them on a lanyard and risk being considered uncool!

  • Don’t set them down – on tables, countertops, and especially at restaurants. They generally get pushed to one corner as you progress through your meal and you will invariably leave them behind.

  • If you do need to set them down, keep them along with something – such as your car keys, wallet, handbag or mobile phone – anything that you are less likely to forget taking along when you leave.

Buying Sunglasses

If you have already lost a pair (or two) of sunglasses this summer, it’s time to buy a new one and update your style. Remember to choose a pair that blocks at least 99% of UVB rays and at least 95% of UVA rays. Always try on the sunglasses to make sure that they fit properly and don’t pinch around your head. And your eyelashes should not touch the frame or lenses. At your friendly neighbourhood Leightons Opticians branch you can browse through our extensive collection of designer sunglasses and choose a frame that suits the shape of your face and your lifestyle. Our trained opticians are at hand to help you make the right decision. While you’re at the store, take a free eye examination to make sure that your eyes are in great shape. If you need prescription sunglasses, we can customise them for you. Sail through the rest of the summer with the right pair of designer sunglasses!
