Krish Hawabhay

Director of Branch Development, Branch Manager & Dispensing Optician

Krish joined Leightons in 2004, initially as a mobile dispensing optician where he worked throughout Leightons store network developing a comprehensive understanding of the business. Krish’s next move was to the role of Manager, where he helped develop and grow Leightons flagship branch in Farnham.

Krish was appointed to Director of Branch Development in July 2011, where he combines his passion for customer service, dispensing and management to help develop Leightons business across the group.

In his spare time, Krish enjoys motor racing, travelling and is a keen runner.

Why did you choose to work for Leightons?

I had been working for a number of independent opticians on a locum basis and had decided it was time for a change of career path. After registering with an Agency I was lucky to be offered an interview with Leightons.

After some time spent working in store to learn about the Company, I undertook a 6 month placement before taking my final Dispensing papers. On qualifying I worked on the Relief Dispensing Team gaining valuable experience from working in different branches.

When the position of Branch Manager at Farnham was advertised, I applied and was offered the position!

How does the culture of working at Leightons differ to other places?

At Leightons, we are afforded the professional freedom to do what it takes to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers, which cannot always be said about the ‘big players’ on the High Street.

As eyecare professionals at Leightons, we are trusted by our customers and with that comes a great deal of responsibility.

How does Leightons stay at the forefront of the optical industry?

Leightons invests heavily in training for every member of staff. From the Optometrists right through to the Head Office team.

Having the latest technology at our fingertips like the OCT, puts Leightons above and beyond our competitors, coupled with the ability to supply our customers the most up to date products available on the market, ie from contact lenses to the more advanced tailored spectacle lenses.

Finally, having knowledgeable staff who are passionate about delivering that ‘wow’ factor, always sets us apart.

How has your career changed or improved since working at Leightons?

When I first joined Leightons, my main objectives were job satisfaction, career progression and to be appropriately remunerated for my contribution to the business.

I am pleased to say that my aspirations have far exceeded my hopes as I have worked my way ‘up through the ranks’ to where I am today.

What do you value most about being a Leightons employee?

I value that I am made to feel included in decision making and appreciated for working hard and for simply being made to feel part of the family.
