Anna-Retha studied speech therapy and audiology at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, before gaining a wide range of experience in the UK.
“I worked in South Africa in a rural area providing basic care and developing services where there was none. I then moved to the UK to broaden my horizons, and worked as a locum for a couple of years in different locations and departments. This was during the big change from analogue to digital hearing aids, which gave me an amazing opportunity to see how different counties and hospitals managed and provided hearing care throughout the UK. I then decided to work permanently at a well-known London NHS Trust. As well as providing me with broad experience, this gave me confidence to use my wide range of assessment skills to deliver high quality, individualised care to each patient.”
“My number one priority has always been to make a difference. To improve quality of life for my patients, as well as their families. Much of this relies on a good relationship between the patient and the professional looking after them. My approach has always been patient centred, and Leightons’ longer appointment times mean that there’s always enough time to listen. This makes it easier to explore personal preferences and individual requirements and enable patients to really trial different options. Being able to choose from the best technology from the top hearing aid manufacturers worldwide helps me support patient choices and deliver a better ongoing long-term hearing solution.”
