Fryern Funtasia with Chandlers Ford
Jul 17, 2019 in Leightons News
Recently our Chandlers Ford team attended the Fryern Funtasia event in order to raise awareness of how diabetes can affect hearing and vision, along with talks on all thing’s eyes and ears.
Diabetes affects 4.7 million people in the UK alone, with one of the first signs being blurred vision. We informed people of the importance of regular eye exams, in order to catch any symptoms early. Along with having an impact on your eye’s, diabetes can also affect your hearing, with those who have diabetes being at greater risk of experiencing hearing loss.
During the event we had the opportunity to have many interesting chats and conversations with fair goers on this subject, with some even booking in for follow up appointments.
We also held a charity raffle to help raise money for the Leightons Foundation. The Leightons Foundation is part of our commitment to the community and each year we support a different charity to help people live life to the full. This year we are supporting the charity Mind, with mental health having a strong link between vision and hearing, we feel it is important to support those experiencing mental health issues and help them to stay connected.
Alongside the charity raffle we also had a selection of goody bags to give away, packed with Leightons merchandise they went down well with everyone. Our Chandlers Ford Audiologist, Meryl Chambers, met the Mayor of Eastleigh during the event. The Mayor decided to visit for a full hearing assessment and sight test following on from a very informative discussion.
Overall it was a great day and we always look forward to attending more events like this in the future.
